Radiant Retreat  Music
--in Maya  Tulum, Yucatan

There is the music of
the melodious blackbird’s  song
piping in the dawn

There is the music of the swishing of palm fronds,
 across the cabana reed roof.

There is music in the sun playing over the surfaces
of  palms  in the  shadows of light
falling on a white sand path.

There is the music of  sea waves
 rising and falling, washing
 over limestone craters.

There is the music  in brown pelicans
swooping , diving from black obsidian boulders
into azure waves, and rising.

There is music in turning the corner of the cove
and hearing the silver alto flute’s notes
floating in the sea breeze.

There is music in burnished driftwood,
and delicate sea fans,
on the slate of white sand

My own shadow falling in front of me.

There is music in dogs romping,
a child and his father  sculpting sand castles,

There is music in the para sailors gliding over the waves,
in lovers strolling  hand in hand

There is music in the clouds painted
on the sky, the clear blue notes of the sea
meeting the diminuendo of the surf,

There is music in the the tide’s  last erasure
of our footprints in the sand.
